1 / 14

Overview

Enjoy a hands-on Texas barbecue and cooking class with a barbecue master in his home! Robert has been grilling, barbecuing and smoking meats for almost 20 years. Passionate about southern style barbecue, he took a master class in barbecuing when he lived in Texas and grills every Sunday!

Hone your barbecue skills as you learn about the ideal temperature and technique for grilling steak or chicken. You'll learn to prepare a seasonal salad and dressing from scratch. Enjoy the meal you helped prepare with your host and his wife when she is home.

Discover Texas culture and cuisine during this immersive experience with your host Robert. Robert grew up in a family that loved food - they ate together during meals and if they were not eating, they were talking about food. Robert loves entertaining people and is looking forward to teaching people to barbecue while sharing a meal together!

What to expect

  1. 305 Homedale St

Meet your host Courtland at his welcoming home and beautiful garden located in a cool New Orleans residential neighborhood. Sip on a refreshing drink as Courtland shares stories about living in New Orleans before joining him in his kitchen. Learn to cook a Cajun meal during this experience that is both hands-on and a demonstration. As much as possible, Courtland uses fresh produce from his vegetable garden or that she purchases from local markets. During your Cajun cooking lesson that lasts about 1.5 hours, you will learn to cook three authentic Cajun dishes. Not only will you learn the culinary history and techniques involved in making a Cajun starter, main and dessert but also the differences between Cajun and Creole cuisine. A jovial host, Courtland encourages people to cook based on what you taste, see and smell. After cooking, sit down at the table to share the fresh, seasonal meal you helped prepare with Courtland. Your menu includes a traditional Cajun appetizer such as boudin balls and for a main, one of several Cajun dishes such as jambalaya, gumbo, étouffée or blackened fish along with a vegetable side. Your meal concludes with a dessert and includes beer or wine.
